The area around Volubilis has been inhabited at least since the Late Atlantic Neolithic, some 5,000 years ago; archaeological excavations at the site have found Neolithic pottery of design comparable to pieces found in Iberia. By the third century BC, the Phoenicians had a presence there, as evidenced by the remains of a temple to the Punic god Baal and finds of pottery and stones inscribed in the Phoenician language. The origins of its name are unknown but may be a Latinization of the Berber word Walilt, meaning oleander, which grows along the sides of the valley.

Day 5 : Fes – Bhalil – Imouzzer Kandar – Ifran – Azrou – Khenifra - Bin el Ouidan | Overnight in Bin el Ouidane

The sounds of the city subside under the soothing rhythm of the call to prayer. It is the medina’s most serene moment. After breakfast, your private transfer will escort you away from the ramparts of the old town and into Bin El Ouidane, a little paradise in the mountains of the Middle Atlas.

On your way there you will have multiple stops where you will get to visit the most breathtaking places in morocco such as bhalil a town in the north of Morocco. Set on the side of a hill 6 km northwest of Sefrou, the village of Bhalil is notable for its unique cave houses located in the old part of the village, and for its eclectically colored homes, linked together by a network of bridges. Some of the cave houses in Bhalil are routinely open to tourists to visit, but are rapidly disappearing as the village modernizes.

Bhalil is also known for its production of Djellaba Buttons. Village women can often be found in alleyways, chatting while they diligently work through hundreds of strings and buttons in the creation of traditional Djellaba. The village is also known for its olive oil production, and traditional bread ovens.

You will also have a stop at imouzzer kandar a town built by the French authorities in the early 20th century, and it was arranged as a smaller version of Ifrane. The town lies 1350 metres above sea level, and offer heatstruck Fezzians cool air and the chance of swimming in the handful of pools in the region. Some of the houses around Imouzzer du Kandar remain from the French, built with nature stones and with slanting roofs, quite different from typical Moroccan style. The best day to visit is Monday, when farmers, craftsmen and vendors come to town, on other days, only basic needs are provided for.

You will visit Ifran a city in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco, located at an elevation of 1,665 m (5,463 ft). In Tamazight, the regional Berber language, "ifran" means caves. The first permanent settlement of the area dates to the 16th century, when a sharîf by the name of Sîdî ‘Abd al-Salâm established his community in the Tizgui Valley, seven km downstream from the present town. The caves which now lie under these houses are still used as mange for animals and for storage.

Moving on to your next stop, khenifra, a city in northern central Morocco, surrounded by the grand Atlas Mountains and located on the Oum Er-Rbia River "the mother of springtime" it is a large, long and high-throughput river. Oum Er-Rbia is fed by a large number of groundwater springs. The area near its headwaters is called "The Forty Springs" as a result, although that is a poetic term rather than an exact count, Oum Er-Rbia is the second-largest river in Morocco after the Sebou River. It originates in the Middle Atlas and passes through the city of Khénifra. Khenifra was an important military holding in the Zaian war, khenifra is inhabited by zayanes, a berber tribe, and the language spoken is a variety of central Atlas Tamazight. Absolute Morocco Travelers Reviews

INCREDIBLE 11-DAY MOROCCO TOUR
Travelled On : 05 February 2020

Absolute Morocco made our trip to Morocco fantastic in every way. Abdul was our private driver for 10 days around most of Morocco, and he was the most kind, knowledgeable, and courteous driver we could ask for. He took us to some truly local places, knew people everywhere, and helped out in the rare instances where we needed some translation (most people speak enough English for tourists). He also had some terrific playlists that made the longer drives very entertaining.
